Ninja Foodi Egg & Bacon Pie
Old fashioned comfort food at its best. This ninja foodi egg and bacon pie will remind you of the pie your grandma made. We blind bake it first using the Ninja Foodi, then as it blind bakes make the egg batter. It then all comes together and bakes in the ninja foodi until golden.

The Pie That Almost Made The Air Fryer Cookbook
I will let you in on a little secret……this egg and bacon pie recipe was almost in The Complete Air Fryer Cookbook then almost in Air Fryer Easy Everyday and almost made it, but didn’t quite get in.
During the making of our first cookbook, we cut it so that we could do three air fryer sweet pies. We did apple pie, cherry pie and pumpkin pie. Its one of my favourite sections of the book and was dedicated to one of our readers from the USA who passed away during the making of the book.
Then in our second cookbook, we were doing several ways with a different style of pastry, and we just ran out of room. Which is such a shame as it’s a delicious pie inspired by my late grandma.
I was going through our archives on our laptop and found it and I just had to share. So, what I have done is included it as this months FREE RECIPE OF THE MONTH. And also created a PDF version with lots of step by step photos and more so this recipe can stay in people’s minds and remind them that baking in the air fryer, especially homemade pies are the BEST.
You can add your email address below and have access to the PDF of this great recipe and also access all our other email club features and downloads.
In case you are wondering what process it got to in our cookbook then it had been triple recipe tested (okay I confess more than 3 times as we like making it so much), it had been edited by the editor of our air fryer cookbooks and it was all ready for being made at the photoshoot and into the pages of the book.
Can You Cook A Egg & Bacon Pie In The Air Fryer?
Yes, you can cook an egg and bacon pie in the air fryer, and I have to say I love the golden crisp of an air fryer pie. I have done many pies in the air fryer over the years.
From an egg and bacon pie (OBVIOUSLY)…..and then I have also done a chicken pie, leftover turkey pie, meat pies, vegetarian pies, curry pie and the list goes on.
Is it egg and bacon pie or bacon and egg pie? I have always called it an egg and bacon pie but I notice more people name it the other way around. Its like how we have the different names for potatoes and carrots.
What pastry for egg and bacon pie? I know some prefer a puff pastry pie and others prefer shortcrust. You can do either. We often make our own homemade shortcrust pastry and then its more traditional for a bero bacon and egg pie. If you are making egg and bacon pie with puff pastry then note you can use a sheet of ready rolled puff pastry.
Do you have to cook bacon before putting it into egg and bacon pie? Yes, it is recommended for a few reasons. The first one is that it will go soggy and make your pie soggy because of the fat from the bacon as it needs the bacon fat patting dry first. The second one is that the uncooked bacon will not have chance to go crispy if it is cooked with the pie.
Should you blind bake your egg and bacon pastry? We recommend doing so. This prevents you having a soggy bottom to your pie and to make sure its properly cooked underneath.

Sam & Dom Says…
“Making an egg and bacon pie is so easy giving you a great start with baking in the air fryer. This pie recipe was made using the Ninja Foodi but it’s also very easy to make in a traditional air fryer or a Ninja Speedi.”
The Kitchen Gadget Pie Tin
I often get asked which pie tin, or quiche tin works best for the kitchen gadgets.
Its this one we use in this recipe and in a lot of our recipes. It’s by Masterclass and it is 20cm/8 inch. It’s the perfect size for your pies, quiches and tarts and it also has the perforated bottom making it perfect for getting the bottom of your pie cooked perfectly.
Here it is getting ready for this recipe

Learn More About Blind Baking
This is one of many recipes here at Kitchen Gadgets Club that uses the method of blind baking. The idea that you are baking the bottom of your pastry, before adding the filling. We shared a full article about blind baking here and we recommend you have a read.
Egg & Bacon Pie Ingredients

People often call it 4 ingredients egg and bacon pie as there are 4 key ingredients you need to make it.
The Eggs – Note a basic egg and bacon pie is like a quiche but with a pastry lid. It’s like a quiche woke up one day and decided to be a delicious comforting pie. With this in mind the main ingredient is the eggs. And you beat the eggs like you do when you use them to make a pie.
The Bacon – There is the egg and then of course there is the bacon. Cooked chunks of bacon is added to the egg batter to make the main filling.
The Pastry – We used homemade pastry for the pie with plain/all purpose flour and softened salted butter.
The Seasoning – Then for seasoning you can mix and match to suit what you like. But I always start with some salt and pepper. Then you could add mixed herbs, oregano, parsley or another favourite.
The Milk – This is optional but I love a splash of milk to my eggs to make it creamier like a frittata.
Though in our printable recipe card which includes step by step photographs and full measurements you can see a full breakdown of every ingredient featured in this recipe.
Crustless Egg & Bacon Pie
I get it, even though pastry is amazing, many of us are on a low carb diet and need a crustless version. If that is you, why not try our air fryer egg cups? It’s like omelette bites and you can follow this system and use the egg and bacon pie ingredients just not the pastry.

Pie Maker Egg & Bacon Pie
I also love my pie maker and it makes delicious mini egg and bacon pies – I highly recommend you try them or you can make them with any pie leftovers you have in.
How Do You Make Egg & Bacon Pie?

Making your own homemade egg and bacon pie is much easier than you think. We are going to split it into three parts of the recipe. We are going to cook the bacon first and whilst the bacon cooks you can be making your own homemade pastry. Then blind baking the pastry ready for its filling. Then again back to the filling and making it whilst you blind bake. Then we can bring together your pie and finish cooking it.
But wait: We do have more pies in The Complete Air Fryer Cookbook so don’t forget to grab a copy. It even has a creamy chicken and mushroom pie in there.

Ninja Foodi Egg & Bacon Pie
Equipment
Ingredients
- 4 Thick Rashers/Slices Smoked Bacon
- 4 Large Eggs
- 2 Tbsp Whole Milk/Full-Fat Milk
- 1 Tsp Dried Parsley
- 1 Tsp Dried Thyme
- Salt & Black Pepper
For the homemade shortcrust pastry
- 375 g /9oz/2 Cups Plain/All-Purpose Flour plus extra for dusting
- 190 g /4½oz/½ Cup Salted Butter softened
- 3 Tbsp Cold Water fine to use from the tap
- Salt & Black Pepper
Instructions
- Start by making the pastry. Sift the flour into a bowl and cut the butter into 1cm/½ inch chunks. Add the butter to the bowl and season with salt and pepper , then use your fingertips to rub the fat into the flour. Shake your bowl and any big bits will rise to the top. When the mixture resembles breadcrumbs, add the water, a little at a time, mixing as you go until the mixture comes together into a dough.

- Roll out the dough on a flour-dusted surface until it is a circle large enough to generously line the base and sides of a 18cm/7 inch pie tin, and about 3mm/1/8 inch thick. Line the tin, then roll a rolling pin over the top of the pie tin and it will allow the overhang to perfectly drop off. Put the remaining pastry to one side for doing the top of the pie later.

- Add a layer of paper liner, grease proof paper, or baking paper to your pie tin over the pastry. Then cover with a full layer of baking beans. Then lower the pie tin into the air fryer or the rack for your Ninja Foodi. Press bake or air fry and set the temperature to 160ºC/320ºF and blind bake for 30 minutes.

- When the air fryer beeps, remove the pie crust, put the baking beans and the paper liner to one side and you will have a golden pie crust ready for its fillings.

- Slice the bacon into 2cm/¾ inch squares, then put it into the air fryer basket and spread it out so that it cooks evenly. Set the temperature to 200ºC/400ºF and cook for 8 minutes. We did this on a paper liner to make clean up easier.

- When the air fryer beeps, check the bacon for crispness and add a couple of extra minutes if it’s not crispy enough for you. Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with kitchen/paper towel to drain excess fat from the bacon.

- Crack the eggs into a mixing jug and beat with a fork. Transfer 1 tablespoon of the beaten egg to a small bowl and set aside (this will be your egg wash for the top of the pie). Add the milk, along with the parsley, thyme and a generous seasoning of salt and pepper.

- Scatter the bacon pieces evenly into the pie case, then pour in the egg mixture.

- Roll out the remaining pastry to make a circle large enough to cover the top of the pie. Place the lid on top of your pie and crimp the pastry together around the edges to seal. Finish by brushing a coating of egg wash over the top of the pie and also use scissors to create a pie hole in the top for the steam to escape from. Gently place the pie into the air fryer basket or the rack if using a Ninja Foodi, set the temperature to 180ºC/360ºF and cook for 25 minutes.

- Then check the doneness of the pie and add a little longer if needed.

Why Is The Bottom Of My Bacon & Egg Pie Soggy?
You normally have a soggy bottom on your egg pie when it either hasn’t been blind baked first, or if the bacon didn’t have the excess fat removed before cooking the whole pie.
How Long Should It Take To Cook A Pie In The Air Fryer?
It can vary a lot depending on the size for how long to cook a pie in the air fryer. What we have personally found is that mini pies take about 15 minutes. Then reheating a pie can be up to 30 minutes and then if you have blind baked first we find the average pie then takes 25 minutes to cook.
What Temperature Do You Cook Egg & Bacon Pie?
The perfect temperature is 180c/360f for cooking your egg and bacon pie. But because you don’t want to overcook the pastry, we find that for the blind bake it works better on a 160c/320f temperature.
What To Serve With Egg & Bacon Pie?
Traditional egg and bacon pie was always a picnic food. The food you took with you to a barbecue, something to have as an afternoon snack in the fridge and of course….took on your picnic.
So, for serving with egg and bacon pie we recommend your other picnic style food such as our air fryer sausage rolls, cute little sandwiches, some crisps, and a nice cold drink.
Can You Freeze Egg & Bacon Pie?
Yes, you will be pleased to know you can freeze your cooked egg and bacon pie. Why not make it in an aluminium foil pie dish and then you can wrap it in foil once cold and freeze. Then defrost and warm up in the air fryer when you next crave some pie.
